What is being said about Nuke-Con

The people at NukeCon couldn’t have been nicer—they really took care of me. What really impressed me, though, was the incredible atmosphere. People from every genre of gaming came together in a fun, comfortable environment—how could great gaming not happen?

- Dave Wellington, author and 2006 Special Guest

Thanks again to Scott and Fredd for being great Special Guests!

Thank you both so much!

Scott Johnson
Special Guest Scott Johnson
Scott’s Home Page
Scott Johnson’s childhood was heavily influenced by comic books, Sci-Fi movies, and Fantasy novels. Although he always loved to draw, he never considered a career in art until he started college. There were a couple of teachers in the Illustration program at Northern Illinois University doing comics and games – that was a stroke of luck!

Scott has a reputation for versatility. His work has been commissioned by numerous publishers, including Marvel Comics, Wizards of the Coast, Games Workshop, Dragon Magazine, Palladium Books, White Wolf Publishing, TSR, FASA, and others. In addition to fantasy illustration, he has also done commercial work such as package design, website design, product illustration, and concept design for toys.

Scott produces digital art through the use of 3D modeling programs, then applies traditional illustration techniques. As he tells it, “I just happen to “paint” on a computer instead of using oils or acrylics.”

Fredd Gorham is our Artist Guest Emeritus and long time friend and supporter of Nuke-Con. Fredd’s art can be found in comic books, game books, web sites, corporate promotional materials, personal collections and so much more!

2007 Special Guest Interview with Fredd Gorham
Posted on: 06/18/07 03:26 PM

Special Guest Fredd Gorham is gearing up for busy few years. Beyond his day job and outstanding support for local convention and charity organizations, he has recently taken on projects for Markosia Comics and Mil-Net for CAV. Look for several of these new projects to be available just in time for Nuke-Con.

Markosia is a independent comic book company publishing in the US and UK, with such titles as Smoke and Mirrors, Of Bitter Souls, and soon an adaptation of the book Heretic.

Fredd was approached by the Markosia’s North American representative Chuck Satterlee with several projects. Chuck was familiar with Fredd’s extensive comic book work and had recently been working with other member’s of the ShockTrauma Studio, completing the connection.

Fredd was hand picked to illustrate “No Other Gods” by authors Chuck Satterlee and Brian Augustyn, of DC Comics fame. This dark tale pits the religiously single minded government against a superhero, Apollo, who was granted his powers by the gods of Olympus. The story reflects the real world politics and propaganda machine, as the administration deals with the superhero they do not approve of. Look for this 4 book mini-series in February 2008.

King Kong- Kong, King of Skull Island, was the next Markosia project. Being a “Son of Kong” himself, Fredd jumped at the chance to work on the project. It is the prequel to the original King Kong movie and approved by the family of Merrian C. Cooper family. Fredd’s full page illustrations will be featured in the 6 book series. Look for this series to be available in September of this year.

At the same time, Fredd was approached by Thane Barnier, a long time acquaintance through Nuke-Con, to illustrate a series of PDF game modules being written by Mil-net for the CAV system of REAPER Miniatures. These CAV modules will be compiled into a published volume, scheduled to be released in Q4 2007.
